To live for today or tomorrow?

‘Life’s short’
‘Live for the moment’
‘Live each day as if it was your last’
…just some of the age-old advice that our society has been bombarded with day-in-day-out. To a certain extent – I agree. But planning for the future is also an inextricable part of life as a student. I myself have switched between the 2 views many times, often oscillating most during the times I am under pressure. But ultimately, it is hope for the future that spurs me on.
During my incarceration a.k.a study break, I found myself daydreaming all sorts about the possible future I can create for myself… emigration to the States seems very attractive, or perhaps to a rising Asian giant – anywhere but this grey, wet excuse for a country. It is this thought that leads me to believe what I am doing is worthwhile. Of course, dreams may change, but what is paramount is to have a focus, a goal, a purpose to the task at hand. Lose sight of that, and it will be like switching off the only light at the end of a tunnel…
